Chad le Clos and Jeanni Mulder talk Olympics and Miss SA

Olympic swimmer Chad le Clos and his girlfriend, Miss South Africa finalist, Jeanni Mulder spoke to the Scenic Drive about their relationship and the year ahead.

Chad le Clos is a South African Olympic swimmer, World and Commonwealth Games champion as well as the Commonwealth record holder in the 50 and 100-metre butterfly.

At the 2020 Toyko Olympics, Le Clos, finished a disappointing sixth in the men's 100-metre butterfly as he touched the wall in 51.89 seconds in his heat at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.

"I’m sorry that it didn’t go the way I hoped but I’m always proud to represent my country. This year has been tough on my people back home and I really wanted to bring some hope to everyone But unfortunately, it didn’t happen and I make no excuses, I took a chance it didn’t pay off, Le Clos wrote on Instagram. 

"It happened. It is my third Olympics. But I'm gonna be back and I'll win again."

Le Clos continued by saying that this year was hard on everyone. 

"We have to move on. I'm in the pool again."

Jeanni Mulder, the girlfriend of Le Clos, is a South African model who is one of the Top 10 finalists for Miss South Africa 2021. 

Mulder is hoping to take the crown and be the proud ambassador of the country. 

"So grateful & humbled to be apart of the Top 10 for Miss South Africa 2021. Absolutely magical to be apart of this incredible platform," Mulder wrote on Instagram the day the announcement was made. 

"When I was 17 I started out as a waitress. My manager told me to become a model. After school, I moved to Cape Town and started modelling."

Mulder said that her mother told her to first finish school. 

Now that Mulder is part of the Miss South Africa organisation, she would like to advocate for better education. 

"When I finished school, there was no money to go to university. Thank God for my modelling career."

Mulder continued by saying that not many children are able to study further.

"I'm extremely proud of her. She is my Miss South Africa," Le Clos added.
