Rodney and Francisco win the Scenic Cruizer!
Rodney and Francisco gave the challenges their all and campaigned hard to win the Scenic Cruizer.
When it came to give away the Scenic Cruizer, we at The Scenic Drive with Rian knew one thing for sure: whoever wanted to have the car would have to work hard to earn it.
Many of our listeners entered to stand a chance to win the Scenic Cruizer, sending SMSes about why they believed they were the couple that could stand to spend 48 hours "trapped" inside the Daihatsu Copen in the middle of a busy mall. Clearly, listeners of The Scenic Drive are not afraid of a challenge. And they will do almost anything to win the We Buy Cars Scenic Cruizer.
So, the Scenic Drive team came up with three challenges.
- Fitting a maximum number of balloons into the car,
- Finishing a sticky ribs or wings meal with a blindfold on, and
- A modified "kissing booth" that involved the couple in question locking lips on camera for as long as possible.
Each of the challenges was designed to give the couples an equal chance to win the car, while testing their wits and pushing them a little bit out of their comfort zone. And, as with most challenges like this, there is no way to guarantee how anyone will react in the moment.
The couples' participation in the challenges counts for 50% of their overall score, with the other 50% coming from SMS votes.
All the couples - Frik and Antoinette, Sienie and Johan and Rodney and Francisco - did very well at the dance challenge. Rodney and Francisco were even lucky enough to have Rian join them for one song on the "dancefloor".
Fitting balloons in the car proved a relatively easy task for each of the couples, with all of them managing to fit upwards of 60 balloons into the car.
It is the "kissing booth" that proved to be the most demanding of the challenges. Frik and Antoinette were not willing to lock lips on camera, and so sat out of that round.
Sienie and Johan, who were in high spirits from the minute they got into the car and had shared with Rian that their relationship was solid enough to survive the weekend in the car, happily kissed on camera for a total of two minutes.
Rodney and Francisco, who have been together for three years and came to the competition determined to win, also participated in the challenge.
They were off to a shaky start - possibly due to the garlicky dinner from before (a meal which was also planned to test the limits of the partners) or the knowledge that this challenge counted towards their overall votes - but the couple managed to last just under a minute in the imaginary kissing booth.
The moments before Rian announced Rodney and Francisco as the overall winners of the competition were tense. As soon as they heard their names the couple jumped for joy and thanked everyone who voted for them.
They will surely be going on many incredible road trips in the red roadster this December.
