If you think of a bouncer at a bar, pub or club, you imagine a tall and strong guy who tries to keep the peace while people enjoy food and alcoholic beverages.

When you visit Thirsty Okes in Brakpan, you meet a different type of bouncer, and her name is Lina Stoltz.

Lina Stoltz is a bouncer or 'peacemaker', as she calls herself, a mother of two, 1.94m tall, and wears a size 12 shoe.

Lina Stoltz might be intimidating and not scared of anyone, but when you talk to her, it's a different story. The Scenic Drive met Lina Stoltz.

"I really do not like being called a bouncer, because that's not how I am,” she laughed.

Yet it is her duty to brief visitors who make trouble or do not abide by the rules.

"I always try to approach things calmly first. People learn this way with time and usually, a talk helps a lot more than violence. In any case, I am not in favour of violence. Violence will always be the last option.

"I actually have a soft heart and I also cry easily," she said.

"When I'm working, there is not a lot of fights. I keep things calm. When I become aggressive, they become aggressive."
