News anchor Peter Ndoro mistakenly declared Mangosuthu Buthelezi dead

In an on-air bulletin, SABC news anchor Peter Ndoro falsely reported that IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi had passed away. He has since apologised for the blunder.
In an on-air bulletin on 21 January, SABC news anchor Peter Ndoro falsely reported that IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi had died, even stating his age.
Ndoro made the blunder in a segment about the passing of former Bophutatswana President Lucas Manyane Mangope.

Ndoro has since apologised for the mistake, taking full responsibility for what happened and calling it "an honest slip of the mind".

The news anchor said that this was something that could happen to anyone: "It happens. Sometimes you think about another person as you want to say someone else’s name. I only realised afterward what I had done."
SABC sports presenter Mpho Maboi defended Ndoro on social media, saying: "No one is above live TV".
