Rian receives a piece of fan art
Updated | By The Scenic Drive with Rian
Sonja Grobler sent in a drawing done by her son Jacques-Jean-Pierre Grobler at Sunday school - and it featured Rian in quite an interesting role.
Scenic Drive listeners love connecting with Rian and learning new things about him. Some view Rian as a best friend or family member and not only look to him for advice but also share their achievements with him.
One such sharing moment from October this year involved a young artist, a tree and a story from the Bible.
Here's how it all happened.
Zacchaeus appears in the book of Luke in the Bible, in a story which involves the man - who is described as a tax collector who was small in stature - climbs into a nearby sycamore tree so that he can see Jesus above the heads of the people in the crowd. Jesus, seeing Zacchaeus perched in the tree, tells him to come down from the tree and show him to his house, where Jesus planned to stay the night.
At a Sunday school somewhere in South Africa, young children were listening to the story of Zacchaeus. The teacher asked them to draw a tree and then cut a picture of a man out old magazines to recreate the scene from the story. That's how Rian ended up being the star of nine-year-old Jacques-Jean-Pierre's masterpiece:
How's that for imaginative fan art?
Rian says he always wanted to be a Bible character, but this is not exactly the one he had in mind. The listeners, on the other hand, loved it.
