Rian van Heerden shares his thoughts on the Marakele lion attack

Rian van Heerden had to get something off his chest following news of the lion attack at the Marakele Predator Park in Limpopo.

On Tuesday afternoon Rian van Heerden spoke briefly about the news of the lion attack at Marakele Predator Park. 

Rian has visited Marakele Predator Park (not to be confused with the Marakele National Park), which brings this news of the attack on Mike Hidge close to home for him.

The video of the incident, posted by Kevin Wright, shows the shocking moment of the attack. We have since reached out to Wright and the Marakele Predator Park and were unable to obtain a comment.

Rian spoke about the dangers of getting too comfortable around wild animals, and briefly touched on why the lion in question had to be put down. 

Rian's sentiments are echoed in part by Fiona Miles of Four Paws Animal Welfare Foundation, who also mentioned that the incident could have a negative effect on South Africa's reputation as custodian of precious wildlife:
