Giant squid floating in Melkbosstrand will give you the chills
Updated | By Lee-Roy Wright
Who would ever have thought a giant squid would float around Melkbosstrand?

It's not everyday that you stumble across a giant squid floating around.
One paddle-boarder got more than he bargained for when he came across the massive beast while out paddle-boarding near Melkbossstrand just outside Cape Town.
James Taylor was out at sea with a few of his friends when the giant squid was seen floating near the surface. Still alive, the squid bobbed just below the surface. Underwater footage shows that the giant squid was injured. The footage also shows how the squid grabs hold of the paddle-boat and it looks like something out of a horror film.
Taylor quickly tied a rope around the creature and dragged it to shore. Many were unhappy about Taylor bringing the animal to shore, but he claims that it was in the aid of science.
“We did contact the waterfront aquarium. We dissected it and took a bunch of videos and photos that we later sent to them. They sent these on to a professor who has been studying giant squid in South Africa for the last 15 years and he was very excited about the find,” he said, adding that the squid was identified as a giant squid, a conclusion that was corroborated by Smithsonian Museum of Natural History invertebrate zoologist Dr Mike Vecchione.
