Guide to survive load shedding in 2015
Updated | By Bronwyn Hardick

1. Identify who is supplying you with electricity
Are you an Eskom customer or your local municipality’s customer?
2. Get a copy of the load shedding schedule in advance - don't leave it to the last minute!
If you leave it to the last minute, call centres become over loaded and you may struggle a bit to get through to an operator who can tell you whether it is load shedding or a local network problem within your local area.
3. Always be prepared with your backups
Small things like having a spare lock and chain to secure your main gates if you don't have a battery backup when the power is out will put your mind at ease.
4. Get to know your neighbours
Find out who within the community is up-to-date with the relevant information and how you can stay in the loop with the channels they use (Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, ect).
