Harties dam invaded by algae due to sewage spills
Updated | By Lee-Roy Wright
An alarming video has surfaced showing the Hartebeespoort Dam in the North-West overgrown by algae and a hyacinth population.

Aerial footage shows the dam being overrun by large amounts of algae. In the video one can see a large part of the dam completely covered by the plant-life.
The massive increase in growth is caused by the nutrient-rich sewage spills as well as other phosphates in the water. The high levels of pollution flowing into the dam is becoming a problem and causing a massive outcry.
What are your thoughts on this? Will you still be visiting the Hartebeespoort Dam?
A few of our listeners sent through some images showing the overgrown population of hyacinth. The vast amount of plant-life has spread further than the eye can see and has created a 'sea of green'.
