A few tips for the perfect staycation

The school holidays are just around the corner and here are a few ways that you can plan the perfect staycation for the family.

Growing up I always remember the winter holidays as being the most boring holidays of the year. My parents didn't want me spending a lot of time outside because they didn't want me to get sick, we also couldn't spend endless hours in the pool like we did in summer.

Now that I am a little older I can appreciate why my parents were a little stricter and with school holidays around the corner, I thought I could help with a few suggestions on what you can do with your kids this holiday.

Explore the caves

Why not take the kids on a cave adventure. You can try the Cradle of Humankind or the Cango Caves

Have fun in the kitchen

School holidays can be the perfect time to teach your children a thing or two about cooking and baking. You can have fun in the kitchen teaching them how to make quick warm food such as soups and stews.

Visit the Planetarium

I recently visited the planetarium out of curiousity as to whether it is still as fun as I remember and it really is. The ‘Sky Tonight’ show gives you a highlight of what you can expect to see in the skies that evening. It also gives you an extra activity to do with your kids in the evening, you can actually try and find the stars and planets.

Play indoor games

With most of us preferring to stay indoors in the winter season, there are lots of fun indoor games that can be played with your kids such as pillow fights and hide and seek. Depending on the games, some can even be done from the comfort of their own beds.

Treat the kids to Disney on Ice

Being a massive Disney fan myself, Disney on Ice is always a fun time for the kids. They can see their favourite Disney characters and you can sing-a-long to all the songs that your kids play on repeat!

This was really enjoyable. Kade went nuts when he saw this guy.

Have a picnic

Have a family winter picnic and let your children be the ones planning it. They can pick their favourite cookies, warm drinks, and snacks to pack in the picnic basket.

Watch a movie

Cuddle up for a movie. Let your children pick movies that they would like to watch and watch them from the comfort and warmth of your own home.
