Chinese workers break through Great Wall of China

Laziness never gets you anywhere...

The Great Wall of China is something of an icon in the world.

The man-made structure that was built over centuries and is connected with great beauty and symbolism.

But it seems all that history and heritage can be destroyed in a matter of moments.

This is exactly what happened when two Chinese workers decided that damaging a section of the wall to create a shortcut was more important than preserving the history.

"The two suspects, a 38-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman, were working near the affected area and got tired of having to go around the wall in order to reach their destination.

They decided to extend a gap in the centuries-old structure to then drive their excavator straight through, instead of going around." (Oddity Central)

We cannot even imagine the amount of arrogance it takes to do something like this. And that too, from people who are from China.

Not that it makes it any better, but you would think it would've been easier for a non-local to discard the history and value of a heritage site.

The damage is said to be 'irreparable' and even though the damaged area is far away from the restored parts of the wall that usually is seen by travellers, it is still part of the heritage site.
