It's not unusual for us to mistake each other in South Africa and in many parts of the world for being part of a different heritage.

Over the years, we have come to signify certain traits that form part of different cultures, and we associate those traits to be part of the majority of certain communities.

But sometimes it can be a case of mistaken identity - and something of a disaster.

In this case, it was a post made by a TikToker who goes by Sihle Hawkes

In the video, he asks others if they can relate.

Because even though he is Xhosa, he often gets mistaken for being a coloured South African who speaks Afrikaans.

The truth is, love isn't all black and white, and therefore we have to be prepared for people looking like a mix of cultures.

Let's choose to be mindful of that when we meet people.

Don't assume.
