"Norman Doerr purchased his ticket from a convenience store in Ubly, Michigan, last month, according to the state lottery. His winning Powerball numbers were: 06-08-15-27-42." (Business Insider)

The 62-year-old was one of those die-hard lottery players and has been playing the same set of numbers in the Powerball game for eight years.

""I was watching the news the morning after the drawing, and they showed the winning Powerball numbers from the night before," Doerr told Michigan lottery officials.

"I recognised the numbers as soon as they came up on the screen, and I knew I was a big winner! I had to pause the TV and look over the numbers a few times to make sure I wasn't mistaken." (Business Insider)

Surely you would have to double and triple check that before claiming you are the winner?

Considering we have seen some false alarms before.

It is happy news for Doerr though, who was the winner of $1-million (R17-million).

He is excited that the win will allow him to retire earlier than he expected to.
