CNN reports that 2019’s honorary doctorate recipients are being recognised for their achievements and influences in music and their enduring global impact.

This recognition comes as no surprise, as these two musicians have produced hit after hit over the last few decades.

Justin Timberlake

The 10-time Grammy Award-winning musician and actor has become a household name over the last few decades. He has released hits like 'Can't Stop the Feeling!' and 'SexyBack'. Timberlake has also appeared in the movies 'The Social Network' and 'Shrek the Third'.

"Ooooh y'all messed up now. Turned me into a doctor! Y'all messed up!" the singer joked.

Missy Elliot

Missy Elliot has been described as a hip-hop icon, with five Grammy awards to prove it. 'Get Ur Freak On' and 'Work It' became top 40 hits almost 15 years after they had first blown up the music charts after her Superbowl performance in 2015.

"This is still SURREAL to me I keep crying it’s such a feeling I can’t even explain," she explained on her social media platforms.

After receiving her honorary degree, Missy Elliott shared her excitement with her six-million followers on Twitter.
