The loadshedding situation has been something of a menace to many South Africans over the years. But as things fail to improve, it has left many feeling even more angry and frustrated.

Of course they are within their rights to have these feelings, but if we all choose to dwell on our aggression, then nothing good can come of that.

This is why brothers, Namanje, 32, and Simon, 30, Mahlangu, who are street vendors on January Masilela Drive in Pretoria East, have become sort of heroes to motorists during loadshedding.

After noticing the frustrated motorists trying to steer their way through the intersection during loadshedding, these brothers decided to take it upon themselves to step in and assist.

It was turning ugly with people turning to physical altercations as a result of who has the right of way.

Namanje told IOL: “We have worked and lived along this road for several years now, selling different merchandise. At this junction where January Masilela meets Glenwood Road, we saw countless fights between motorists during the power cuts and we decided to help. We were afraid someone would be killed over the right of way”.

The brothers teamed up to create some sort of organisation and have said that they have noticed the appreciation from many motorists.

It's certainly not safe for them to put their lives in danger directing traffic, but they have done it as a sense of community. And if they can get a warm meal out of it, all the better.

So if you see them, give them a smile or something to eat, perhaps it will be turn out to be a good day for you too...
