Energy drinks do wonders when one is feeling exhausted, but at what cost ? Research suggests that these drinks can be dangerous to one's health.

Life can get so hectic. This leads to many of us depending on things like energy drinks to help us perform to our level best. Statistics have shown that over the years there has been an increase in the consumption of energy drinks, but what many people do not know is the dangers that come with consuming such drinks.


Content Researcher Erwin Johnson from personalise.co.uk has revealed that energy drinks can do more harm to the body than good.


The researcher released an infographic showing  what energy drinks, particularly Red Bull, does to the body after being consumed over 24 hours.


From increasing the blood pressure to giving you headaches and making you irritable, take a look at the findings below:


10 Minutes after drinking Red Bull:


- Your heart rate and blood pressure start to rise


15-45 Minutes


- You will feel more alert and your concentration will also improve as this is the time your caffeine levels peak in your bloodstream.


30- 50 Minutes


- All the caffeine is absorbed and your liver also absorbs more sugar into your bloodstream.


1 Hour


- Your body experiences a sugar crash and the affects of the caffeine dying down. This will result in you feeling tired.


5- 6 Hours


- This is the half life of caffeine, so half of the caffeine will  be reduced from your bloodstream, but for women on contraceptives, the body takes double the time.


12 Hours


- All the caffeine might be removed from your bloodstream, but this is depends on factors such as age and activity.


12- 24 Hours


You will start to feel the withdrawal symptoms such as headache, constipation and irritability.


7-12 Days


It takes the body 7-12 days to become tolerant to regular intake of caffeine, so you won't feel the effect as much.
