Think that CA's can't brave the cold? Let Growthpoint Properties' Norbert Sasse defy that!

Often touted as one of the 'cushier' kinds of jobs, desk-bound work such as being an accountant is hardly seen as a tough gig. Want to guess if CA-turned-CEO of Growthpoint Properties Norbert Sasse will survive the Nelson Mandela Bridge for The Sun International CEO SleepOut™ 2016?

Here is Norbert's choice piece of advice for the evening of July 28th, 2016: “It’s a truly humbling experience to be out there and to be pretty exposed, notwithstanding that you’re still in a relatively protected environment, to have a sense, even though it’s not a true sense of what it must feel like to be homeless and sleeping out on the street. The biggest word of advice I would give is to arrive with some warm clothing!”

Norbert holds a BCom and Honours degree in Accounting from Rand Afrikaans University and is a Chartered Accountant (having qualified with Ernst & Young in South Africa in 1990). He has 10 years’ experience in corporate finance with Ernst & Young Corporate Advisory (in London) and Investec Corporate Finance (in South Africa) dealing with a broad range of activities including listings, de-listings, mergers, acquisitions and capital raisings. In 2001 Norbert teamed up with Sam Leon, Managing Director of Investec Property Group Limited (IPG) to drive and implement the reverse listing of the physical property holdings of the Mine Pension Funds into Growthpoint and to provide a “turn-key” solution to the Mine Pension Funds in relation to their physical property holdings.

In October 2007, Norbert led Growthpoint in a historic ZAR 1.6 billion management “buy-in” transaction whereby the company was transformed from an externally managed company to a uniquely, fully integrated internally managed company with over 448 staff countrywide increasing to 673 at December 2015. Norbert was appointed to the Growthpoint Board of Directors in May 2003 and was appointed CEO of Growthpoint in October 2004.

On the 23rd June 2016 Norbert Sasse won the SAPOA Inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award which honours and celebrates exceptional contributions made by an individual who has changed the face of the South African Property Sector.
