Fifty Shades of OK

First Person’s third episode is NSFW (that's not safe for work!)  It's a fascinating and voyeuristic look at how Faeth Lyon-Wall (not her real name) dealt with the feeling of frustration and sexual rejection in her marriage. 

Faeth decided to, as her husband himself put it, “go and scratch her itch”. 

She set out to explore her deepest sexual desires – and all with the blessing of her partner, who simply said “play safe, and come home afterwards”.

In the third edition of Kagiso Media’s podcast series, we’re given a glimpse into a world most of us know very little about – but that clearly tickles a lot of people’s fancy given the sales of Fifty Shades of Grey: the ‘kink’ community, BDSM (bondage/discipline, dominance/submission and sadism/masochism – just in case you were wondering) and the practice of polyamory – having multiple sexual partners who all know about each other. 

First Person presenter, Marianne Thamm, says, “Sex is, for most people, a driving force, an animating urge. Life, let’s not forget, is sexually transmitted. But we often have quite conventional ideas about who we have it with and what kind of sex we have.”

So who are we to say what’s normal? Plus, Marianne says, “I wanted to find out how the hell you manage all of this when life, as it is, is hard enough without having loads of sex with loads of people loads of the time.”

“This edition of First Person is a very good example of what podcasts can do that mainstream radio content often can’t – and that is to explore edgier issues more explicitly and directly”, says First Person producer, Jayne Morgan. 

“Apart from getting a fascinating glimpse into someone else’s life, I think this kind of content has the power to get people talking – in this case about their relationships – more openly and more valuably. It’s a different kind of experience for our audience.”
