Background: Kagiso Media, owners of Jacaranda FM and East Coast Radio have put together the KM Hunger Relief Fund to assist communities in need during the drawn-out Covid-19 lockdown in South Africa. The most basic need remains food. Over the next two weeks, Jacaranda FM will give a platform to four organizations per day, who actively work within afflicted communities to feed the thousands of families who currently cannot earn a living. We want to know who these community Angels are and how our listener community can assist them. Jacaranda FM will also equally distribute R500 000,00 from the Kagiso Media Hunger Relief Fund to these organizations in the form of AngelRands.

We will publish the details of each organization on www.jacarandafm.com so you can contact them and donate directly to assist the essential work they do.

The Randfontein Rugby Club, churches, schools and other organisations in the area have been working together to assist 700 families in the Randfontein, Tarlton and Krugersdorp areas with food hampers during the lockdown. The Rugby Club initially assisted the families of impoverished players in the club, but soon realized that the need for food amongst families in the area, was much greater.

The vice-chairman of the club, Corné Hulme says they are 23 people working together to coordinate this massive hunger relief effort during the lockdown. They get donations of food, pack hampers and deliver these door-to-door to people in need. A family food hamper consists of basics like maize meal, pasta, eggs, milk, bread, peanut butter and also vegetables, donated by Angelo Lucky Farms.
