How to make the perfect herb planter for your space

How to make your own herb planter

Don't waste money on herbs. Grow your own!

Herbs are a key ingredient in many dishes, so you might want to consider making your own herb planter.

Not only will you have a constant supply of herbs at your fingertips, but a herb planter can also add a splash of colour to your kitchen, patio or balcony (depending on where you want to keep it).

You can hang your herb planters on the wall near your kitchen window or decorate and label pots to make the area look pretty.

To get started, you need to decide what type of herbs you want to grow. Coriander, basil, oregano, parsley, peppermint, and chives are kitchen garden favourites.

Once you’ve made a decision, you can then select what type of planter you want to use. You can either buy a wooden planter box at a hardware store, or a garden pot. You can even use mason jars.

Depending on the planter you use, it might be best to add lining to avoid drainage issues.

Your herbs will need lots of sunlight (at least eight hours), so make sure you place them in an area where they will have access to direct sunlight.

Fill your planter with a generous amount of potting soil, which you can either buy or make yourself.

Place the roots of your herbs in the soil and then cover.

Make sure you do some research on the herbs you want to use to ensure the best growing conditions.

Some herbs might need fertilizer and a generous amount of water to grow, while others prefer dry conditions.

Happy herb growing!
