Demi Lovato shares battle with eating disorder

Not only is Demi Lovato battling bulimia, but the star says she is also struggling with body image issues.
Demi Lovato has been struggling with bulimia for years.
The singer opened up about some of the challenges that she has faced along her journey.
Speaking to Penn Badgley on the latest episode of 'Podcrushed', the singer said she has a team of experts helping her with her eating disorder.
“I have a treatment team that I work with that helps me stay in recovery, and I’ve been in recovery from bulimia for five, going on six, years now,” she said on the podcast.
The 'Heart Attack' hitmaker also revealed that she has been struggling with her body image.
“I’m trying to learn body acceptance rather than body positivity, because body positivity feels like, ‘I can’t even reach that yet.’ I have a nutritionist and a therapist that specializes in eating disorders,” she said.
"The main thing that I’m working on is just body acceptance, and looking in the mirror and being like, ‘This body is strong … This body saved my life and fought for my life when I overdosed. This body is a miracle'.”

This is not the first time Demi has opened up about her eating disorder.
In an interview on the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast, the singer spoke about how her management has had to intervene over the years.
She shared one heartbreaking story of how she once snuck out of her hotel room, binged and purged, leading to her management team having to take extreme measures to ensure her safety.
“My security guard walked by my room, or was made aware that they had barricaded me into my hotel room. They put furniture outside of my door so that I couldn’t get out, sneak out, and eat if I wanted to.”
The singer revealed that her eating disorder worsened to the point where, one time, she was throwing up blood.
Demi also spoke about the time she battled with drug and alcohol abuse.
The singer told the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast that she started drinking and taking drugs as a teen. Her addiction to cocaine led to her seeking treatment from the time she was 18 years old.
“[I] loved it too much, and that led into me going to treatment right after I turned 18,” she said on the podcast.
