The Mathematics Paper 2 had been leaked in Giyani.

The basic education department says pupils at a number of schools had access to the question paper before it was written yesterday.

Umalusi spokesperson Lucky Ditaunyane says the number of schools affected has not yet been determined.

"As soon as we have a sense of how many schools are affected, we will share that information. We want to determine who is involved so that a determination can be made on how to move forward. We are very disappointed. We want to assure South Africans that we are doing everything we can to ensure all of those involved are brought to book."

The Life Sciences Paper 2  leaked in the province last year.

DBE spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says the Hawks and police have been tasked to investigate the matter.

"The Department takes this security breach in a serious light and has since involved law enforcement agencies to swiftly investigate this matter. A case has been opened with the police," he says.
