AA warns of 'massive' fuel price hikes in September

South Africans will once again feel a pinch at the fuel pumps in September, the Automobile Association warned on Friday.
The adjusted fuel prices are set to kick in on Wednesday.
The AA was commenting on unaudited data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF).
According to the latest unaudited data from the Central Energy Fund, the price of petrol is expected to increase between R1.59/litre for ULP93 and R1.65/l for ULP95.
The price of diesel is expected to increase by a whopping R2.85/l.
The association’s spokesperson Layton Beard said the latest increases will see petrol prices reach their highest level since July 2022.
"The expected increases are largely being driven by higher international oil prices, which have risen on the back of slow demand and decreased output.
“While the rand has weakened on average against the greenback (US dollar) in August, it’s not a major contributor to the expected increases – that falls squarely on rising international oil prices.”
