ActionSA ‘vaccine to save South Africa’, says Mashaba as it readies for IEC court battle

ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has vowed to beat the African National Congress (ANC) at the upcoming polls – comparing the governing party to a “27-year-old virus”.

Mashaba made the comments at a press briefing on Wednesday. South Africans are heading to the polls on November 1 to vote in the local government elections.

ActionSA, led by the former Joburg Mayor, is one of the new parties on the political scene.

“We believe that South Africa can be fixed. The 27 years of this abuse, the 27 years of this virus. We believe that as Action SA we’ve taken a decision that we are going to destroy this virus  and we are going to use two jabs. Whether the IEC likes it or not we are going  to start on 1 November 2021 apply the first jab.

“ActionSA is a vaccine to save this country and we will conclude this mission of fixing South Africa in 2024.”

The party briefed the media on its upcoming court challenge against the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

The court challenge comes after ActionSA’s name did not appear on the IEC's official ballot paper.

Only its logo is on the ballot paper.

The IEC has defended its actions, saying when registering as a political party ActionSA elected not to register an abbreviated name or acronym.

"I am more determined to campaign so that South Africans are given an opportunity on 1 November to vote for the party of their choice without any ambiguity,” said Mashaba.

“It is going to be clear what they are voting for. We are not going to  allow South Africans to vote for a logo, we are not a logo. We are a political party registered with the IEC as ActionSA.”
