African heads of state have reiterated the call for sanctions to be lifted against Zimbabwe and Sudan.
This was confirmed in a meeting between President Cyril Ramaphosa and presidents of neighboring countries on Friday.
Ramaphosa said the lifting of these sanctions is necessary, as African countries are also battling Covid-19 and need intervention.
"We have managed to raise $25 million for the response fund and an additional $36 million for the Africa disease control center. In our region, Zimbabwe and South Africa were able to contribute funding as well as some businesses.

"We also took time to call for the lifting of sanctions against Zimbabwe and Sudan. We also urge for a waiver for all interest payment and bilateral debt, and this would provide the necessary fiscal space for African countries," added Ramaphosa.
He said the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund should consider canceling debts and extending the debt standstill for two years.
