KEBBLE FATHER FOUND DEAD - Roger Kebble, the father of mining magnate Brett Kebble, has reportedly died. According to reports, the 78-year old Kebble shot and killed himself in his car in Cape Town this afternoon. 


His son, Brett Kebble, was the victim of an "assisted suicide" in his car in 2005 in Johannesburg. No one was ever convicted for the murder of Brett. 


Roger was adamant his son Brett would never have killed himself, as alleged by the state.

 


MIDO MACIA - The National Prosecuting Authority has hailed the conviction of the eight former police officers, who were found guilty on the murder of Mozambican taxi driver Mido Macia, as a victory for justice. 


Macia succumbed to his injuries in a police cell after he was dragged behind a police van through the streets of Daveyton in the East Rand in 2013. 


NPA spokesperson Luvuyo Mfaku says he hopes the conviction will bring closure to Macia's family...


 


MANDELA GRANDSON GRANTED BAIL - The 24-year old grandson of former President Nelson Mandela has been granted bail of R7000


He will appear in the Johannesburg district court again on 16 September. 


He is accused of raping a 15-year old girl in a Johannesburg restaurant earlier this month.

SA ECONOMY DEALT ANOTHER BLOW - South Africa is heading into a technical recession following today's announcement that the Growth Domestic Product for the second quarter of this year has declined by 1,3%


The agriculture sector recorded the biggest decline of 17,4%, mainly due to the drought that farmers faced earlier this year. 


FNB Chief Economist Sizwe Nxedlana says the current atmosphere in the mining sector does not bode well for the outlook for the second half of the year...
