Alleged fraudster appears in court
A man accused of defrauding the labour department's Compensation Fund of R1.2 million appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Friday, the department said.
The matter of Khathuthselo Nethengwe from Olifantsfontein was transferred to a separate court room in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court and would be heard on March 6.
"The accused's matter was transferred to the Pretoria Magistrate's Court after his co-accused Kenneth Martin Mahululu from Thohoyandou last November pleaded guilty to defrauding the department of labour," said spokesman Page Boikanyo.
Mahululu was still awaiting sentencing and his case was being heard in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Unit.
Boikanyo said Nethengwe and Mahululu were on the run for two years.
Mahululu, an Information Technology expert, was nabbed by the Hawks in 2012 at his work place. Nethengwe handed himself over to police.
"The accused are alleged to have committed their fraudulent activities between 2006 and 2009."
Mahululu and Nethengwe are alleged to have submitted and processed fraudulent claims, said Boikanyo.
