ANC in the Free State vows to support Magashule

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Free State has vowed to support the party’s secretary-general Ace Magashule when he appears in court on Friday.
Magashule is set to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court in connection with a multi-million rand asbestos audit contract dating back to his time as provincial premier.
The Hawks issued a warrant of arrest for Magashule on Tuesday.
Free State ANC spokesperson Thabo Meeko says their members will be in court on Friday to show their support for the secretary-general.
“The commitment of the ANC in the province, leadership and membership is that we are receiving the secretary-general, the leader of the ANC national in our province on Friday. We will be giving him support as the credible leader of the African National Congress on these issues.
“The SG committed to work with the law enforcement agencies on the allegations against him. The SG is acting accordingly as the leader of the organisation that took a decision to confront and fight corruption.
“Supporting the secretary-general is not that we are defending corruption. We said that his right to contest these allegations in the credible court of law must be recognised and protected like any other citizen.”
The ANC’s top six leadership convened a meeting on Tuesday night to discuss the warrant of arrest issued to the second most powerful person in the party.
