The African National Congress (ANC) in Tshwane has expressed anger at the decision by mayor Stevens Mokgalapa to allow the the GladAfrica contract to run until June.
The ANC has accused Mokgalapa of contravening council rules after he announced that the irregular contract will be in effect until June.
The Auditor-General found the R12 billion tender to be illegal and said it should be set aside.
During a press briefing on Monday, Mokgalapa said the contract, which the city has already paid R317 million towards – will only be cancelled at the end of the financial year.

The tender didn't comply with supply chain management regulations.
ANC regional spokesperson Bafuza Yabo believes Mokgalapa had to table his decision in council.
“The ANC is horrified that the mayor is offering GladAfrica R250 million of council money as a ‘mutual agreement’ and a corrupt golden handshake to part ways with them, while we have a report from the Auditor-General indicating that the contract is illegal and irregular.”
Several structures have been established to probe city manager Moeketsi Mosola’s role in awarding the tender.
