ANC should expel corrupt officials - analyst

Political analyst Levy Ndou believes the African National Congress (ANC) will only be able to clean up its image by acting against corrupt members.

This comes amid a myriad of corruption allegations relating to Covid-19 relief funds and the procurement of protective gear.
Makhura: 102 companies being probed for PPE procurement
Makhura briefed media on Thursday on the provincial interventions when dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. Health MEC Bandile Masuku is among officials being accused of misconduct. Masuku is linked to the awarding of a R125 million tender for protective gear.
Ndou says the ANC needs to be seen to be taking swift action against any form of corruption.
"You need an ANC that says ‘if you are a member of the ANC and you have been thought to have participated in corrupt activities the ANC has to act very harshly on you’.
"I think it is time of the ANC to start expelling corrupt members from its ranks, because these are the very same people who are tainting the name of the party and that of government.
"If the ANC is the leader of society, and the ANC is serious about corruption we need to see an ANC that is vigilant to corruption.”
Ndou says politicians should not be involved in the awarding of tenders in the first place.
