ANC wants to rule Midvaal

The ANC has not abandoned its intention to control the DA-run Midvaal municipality, Gauteng chairman Paul Mashatile said on Friday.

"We have not given up on Midvaal," he said presenting his political report at the African National Congress's provincial elective conference in Pretoria.

Midvaal is the only municipality in Gauteng not controlled by the ANC.

Mashatile called on delegates to brace themselves for closely-contested local government elections in 2016.

He said the ruling party had not abandoned the Freedom Charter.

He called on ANC members employed in municipalities to serve the people with dedication and honour. He denied there was a division between the party's provincial and national leadership.

"The ANC in Gauteng is working together with the national leadership elected in Mangaung."
