ANC: We are not using taxpayer money to fund January 8 birthday celebrations
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The ANC has denied that it had instructed party members deployed in government to use taxpayer money to fund its January 8th anniversary celebrations.

The governing ANC will be commemorating its 111th anniversary on 8 January in Bloemfontein.
A directive has emerged that purportedly requests government departments to fund certain aspects of the celebrations.
“The ANC will not tolerate any person using its name under the pretext of raising funds for its activities from public funds,” said national ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe.
Mabe vowed to act against any member if there’s “any evidence of any government official purporting to divert public resources”.
Deputy secretary-general Nomvula Mokonyane is the convener of the celebrations while treasurer-general Gwen Ramakgopa will manage the finances.
“Any suggestion that the ANC is plundering public resources to fund its activities is rejected with the contempt it deserves,” Mabe continued.
