Mabe called on illegal immigrants in the country to immediately hand themselves over to the police and avoid communities taking the law into their own hands.

The party on Thursday descended on several police stations across Gauteng following the spate of mass killings, as well as the Krugersdorp rape incident and subsequent clamping down on illegal miners by authorities.

“The appeal we want to make to illegal miners and zama zamas is that they must now move with speed and hand themselves over to police because our people are running out of patience,” Mabe said.

More than 100 people have been arrested during a multi-disciplinary sting operation targeting illegal miners in the West Village area, where the attack took place.

Meanwhile, Mabe condemned the violence in Kagiso on Thursday, where homes reportedly belonging to zama zamas have been torched.

Police are investigating after the body of a male was discovered in a veld. The cause and motive for his death are unknown at this stage.

At the same time, the ANC’s national spokesperson has also called for an end to tender-related extortion, especially in the Tshwane area.

“If our townships are reclaimed by criminals, we are unable to see development. EPWP, CWP must employ you, the ordinary people of communities. Policemen must serve our people with honour. They must work with our communities [and] they must make sure that they safeguard our communities. But equally, we must revive community policing forums. We need CPFs that are effective, not ones that go around trying to protect criminals.”

The ANC spokesperson was joined by provincial secretary TK Nciza and Tshwane Regional Secretary George Matjila at the Temba police station where they handed over their memorandum of demands to police management.
