“The dialogue forms part of the consultative meetings of the ANCWL young women’s desk aimed at organising young women into progressive and active citizenry,” the league said in a statement.

The ANCWL recognised that free and fair elections were a cornerstone of a thriving democracy. It further acknowledged the fundamental principles thereof, including the right to vote and the freedom to elect a political party of choice.

The dialogue would focus on inspiring young women to embrace their democratic rights through their participation in local government elections. The ANCWL believed that young women should be encouraged to shape their future and be directed towards being active community members.

Dlamini would lead the dialogue along with the ANCWL North West leadership. The participants would have an opportunity to raise problems facing young women in the Tlokwe (Potchefstroom) municipal area and their major concerns about the local government elections.

“The dialogue will form part of the ANC build-up programme towards the [upcoming] Tlokwe by-elections. The programme will be led by the members of the ANC national executive committee, accompanied by the North West provincial executive committee and ANC volunteers,” the league said.

Meanwhile SABC reports that the contentious issue of by-elections in Tlokwe Local Municipality is set to go back to courts on Monday.

Opposition parties will again approach the Constitutional Court on Monday to complain about irregularities on the voter’s role.

They say about 1,000 names appearing on the voters role still do not have accompanying addresses. At the same time, they will approach the Electoral Court in an effort to bring an end to what they call the unfair use of public resources.
