Anika Smith murder-accused fit to stand trial

The man accused of murdering Anika Smith is fit to stand trial.
André van Wyk is accused of brutally raping and killing the teenager in 2010 appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court today after after he was sent for psychiatric evaluation.
The 26-year-old was initially sent to Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital for 30 days, but had to stay for another 20 days for further observation.
Smith, who was 17, was at her Theresa Park home due to an illness on the morning of her murder.
The teenager was raped, her throat was slit and her hands cut off.
The matter is set to be heard in the Pretoria North Magistrate's court today.
