'ANN7 and the New Age must carry honest news'
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Former government spokesperson Jimmy Manyi says he will make sure that ANN7 and the New Age newspaper will become South Africa's most trusted media outlets.
This is after Oakbay confirmed in a statement that it had sold the two media companies to Manyi for a combined R450 million.
Speaking to Jacaranda FM News, Manyi said he wants South Africans to be able to depend on ANN7 and the New Age for their news.
"I want to make sure that this media house becomes exactly what it should be.
"It should be the most dependable in terms of honest news, news integrity and a balance of local news and international news," said Manyi.
But Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) Director William Bird doesn't believe there will be any changes to the editorial policies.
"I think what we need to know is to be clear on what the ownership structure looks like and who the shareholders are."
Oakbay says the sale of ANN7 and the New Age forms part of its commitment to preserve the jobs of over 7500 employees throughout the group.
