Another 74 deaths takes Covid-19 fatalities past 19 500

The number of fatalities related to complications from Covid-19 in South Africa has surpassed 19 500.

The latest coronavirus statistics, released by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Tuesday evening, confirmed another 74 deaths from Covid-19.
This takes the cumulative number of fatalities to 19 539.
The Eastern Cape recorded 35 fatalities, while the Western Cape recorded 11.

Gauteng and the Northern Cape experienced eight fatalities over the past 24 to 48 hours, while KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State each recorded six.
A total of 1241 new Covid-19 infections were reported in just one day.
This brings the total number of cases in the country to 728 836.
The country’s recoveries now stand at 659 249 with the recovery rate remaining steady at 90%.
