National Police have arrested a 21-year-old woman at OR Tambo International (ORTIA) on charges of drug trafficking after she was arrested on arrival on a flight from Brazil.

National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, says this was the 11th arrest of a suspected drug mule at the airport in two months.
She says the latest arrest was made just before 9 am on Sunday after the woman arrived from Sao Paulo.
“She was taken to a local hospital where an X-ray confirmed that she was having foreign objects in her stomach.
“She has already released a number of bullets from her body and is in police custody where police are closely monitoring the release of further drug bullets,” adds Mathe.
Mathe says suspected drug traffickers were arrested every week in the last month by the police, customs, and immigration officials, and members of the Border Management Authority at OR Tambo International Airport.
A week ago a 30-year-old Namibian woman had swallowed more than 60 ‘bullets’ containing drugs, suspected to be cocaine.
On Friday, 13 September, a Nigerian national was arrested after he was found in possession of cocaine that was concealed in aircraft headphones after arriving from Brazil.
