Another incident of sexual assault at AB Xuma

Two pupils have allegedly been sexually assaulted for a second time at AB Xuma Primary in Soweto, this time by the forensic investigator probing their case.

The Gauteng Department of Education's Steve Mabona says the alleged incident took place on Monday.

"It is alleged that the investigator sexually molested two grade 3 learners, aged 7 and 8 years old.

"The matter was escalated to the Family and Child Services, who came to the school to interview the affected learners and their parents."

The department says the officer was immediately withdrawn from the case and a case of sexual assault has been opened against him by parents.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has expressed his shock.

"These allegations are shocking and disturbing. A person entrusted with protecting children has violated their trust and that of their parents. This man should meet the full might of the law. It is unfortunate and regrettable that this incident occurred to the very same learners who were previous victims of the school patroller, in the hands of someone entrusted to ensure their safety."

It is the second sexual assault case reported at AB Xuma Primary in less than a year.

Last year, a 57-year-old school patroller was arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted more than 80 learners.
