'Aucamp is not enough - we want Solly'

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and African National Congress (ANC) in Tshwane say the resignation of the city's chief of staff, Marietha Aucamp, is not enough and have vowed to also remove Mayor Solly Msimanga from office.

Aucamp, who is accused of fraud after she allegedly lied about her qualifications, resigned on Thursday but the two political parties maintain that it is not enough.

The ANC and EFF say they are in possession of evidence which directly links Mayor Solly Msimanga in the appointment of Aucamp, and he therefore also should "fall on the sword".

A charge of fraud was laid against Aucamp at the Pretoria Central Police Station on Thursday after she allegedly lied about being in possession of a B-Tech degree on her application form.

She tendered her resignation late on Thursday.

"This appointment by the DA of Marietha Aucamp conveys a divisive message of white supremacy that says being white is qualification to management and senior positions even if you are not qualified for such positions," says ANC Tshwane spokesperson, Lesego Makhubela.

The political parties have also called on Aucamp to pay back the salary she received as chief of staff.

She assumed the position in 2016 and earned in the region of R1.2 million per year.

"We are going to hold this government accountable because we don't want to promote this kind of corruption," says EFF Tshwane regional chairperson, Benjamin Disoloane.

The City of Tshwane has launched an investigation into the alleged irregularities.
