Bheki Mlangeni Hospital CEO on ‘precautionary transfer’

The Gauteng Department of Health has placed the CEO of Bheki Mlangeni Hospital in Soweto on a precautionary transfer.

The department says the CEO is facing allegations of misconduct.
Acting Gauteng MEC Jacob Mamabolo has also set up a team to investigate allegations of rape at the hospital weekend.
The hospital has been in the spotlight this week after a 16-year-old psychiatric patient was allegedly raped by another patient.
Gauteng Health spokesperson Kwara kekana says Makabedi Makhetha has been appointed to act in the position of the CEO.
"The issues surrounding the case must still be verified and a determination will be made accordingly. The CEO has been moved from the hospital.
"The investigator will help finalise the matter following an internal preliminary report. The matter has also been referred to the South African Police Services to investigate. The department remains committed to improving the patient experience of care in Gauteng Health facilities.”
