He was speaking outside the High Court in Johannesburg, where the South African National Editors Forum (SANEF) sought to interdict the group from threatening journalists.

“We came here this morning with a clear understanding that white journalists have no right to be racist. They want to use and abuse these courts to say they have the right to be racist and cover up corrupt activities of white monopoly capital,” said Mngxitama.

SANEF is asking the court to prevent the group from intimidating journalists who are reporting on state capture.

The BLF recently held a protest outside Tiso Blackstar editor Peter Bruce’s house, where they also allegedly assaulted political analyst Karima Brown.

SANEF’s lawyer, Thembeka Ngcukaitobi, argued that harassment is a crime and the court has a duty to stop it from occurring.

The court agreed that the matter is urgent and will deliver judgement tomorrow.

Outside court SANEF Chairperson, Mahlatse Gallens, said they believe today was a victory for democracy.

“We think today was a good day for democracy, the judge accepted the standing of SANEF. More importantly he saw that this matter was urgent. Tomorrow we are expecting the judge to rule on the merits of the case.”
