Body of Parktown Boys pupil Enoch Mpianzi found

The body of the missing Parktown Boys' High school pupil Enoch Mpianzi has been found.

Search and rescue operations resumed on Friday for Mpianzi after he went missing during the school's Grade 8 orientation camp in Brits, North West.

 

It is believed that he had been taking part in a river rafting activity on the Crocodile River at the time of his disappearance.

 

Police spokesperson Adele Myburgh says the body was recovered at least 3 kilometers from the site of the activity.

 

"I can confirm that the body of Enoch Mpianzi was found by divers this morning that is in the Crocodile River.”

 

An inquest docket has been opened.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi also confirmed the tragic news on social media.


"The family of Enoch Mpianza was fully briefed and we are all devastated by this tragic accident.”


He adds: "Our thoughts are with the family and the school community."


Lesufi is on the scene but will make his way back to the school to brief the media.

Lesufi adds that the department, together with the school, decided to cancel the camp. "We've also agreed with the school to immediately suspend the camp and the boys should be released this morning immediately after having breakfast." "The site was then searched until late last night and due to darkness the search was suspended, it will resume this morning," says Lesufi.
