Bogus cop arrested in Midrand

A man is facing charges of impersonating a police official after he was arrested on the N1 in Midrand on Wednesday evening.

Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson Obed Sibasa says the vehicle was fitted with flashing blue lights.

"It is alleged that the security company does VIP protection in Mpumalanga and the driver was detained at Midrand Police Station."
Sibasa says the source of the illegal blue lights is being investigated.
"The vehicle was seized or impounded as it was illegally fitted with blue lights on the grill and dash board."
Sibasa says it is illegal for security companies to use blue lights.
"In terms of National Road Traffic Act, blue lights are only fitted or used on traffic vehicles and security, white lights," warns Sibasa.
