Johannesburg police have warned of a bogus prophet targeting students in the CBD.
Joburg police spokesperson Xoli Mbele says one victim has already lost four laptops.
"The modus operandi is false prophets will stop a student and ask her if she knows someone by the name of so-and-so. After that he will start prophesying telling the victim that she is being bewitched. He will take a victim with a car driven by his accomplices, male and a female inside.
“One of the victims was told to go and fetch her laptop and laptops of her roommates. She took four laptops and two of her cellphones and jumped into their car.
“False prophet took her to Shoprite to buy salt and still water and waited for her outside. When she comes out of the shop false prophet was nowhere to be found," says Mbele.
