The driver of a gas tanker that exploded after getting stuck under a bridge on Christmas Eve is expected to make his first appearance in the Boksburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.
The residents of Plantation, and the country at large, have been left reeling after the explosion that has left 18 dead, and scores others injured.
Homes and buildings in the vicinity of the explosion have suffered structural damage - most notably the nearby Tambo Memorial Hospital.
The suspect - who was arrested on Christmas Day - has been charged with multiple counts of culpable homicide, negligent causing of an explosion resulting in death, and malicious damage to property.
18 people, including a 10-year-old child, and 9 staff members from the Tambo Memorial Hospital - are among the deceased.
The 32-year-old driver's court appearance comes as the Gauteng Health Department announced that affected families may now come forward to identify their loved ones at the Germiston Forensic Pathology Services.
