Boyfriend arrested for woman’s murder in Johannesburg
Updated | By ANA
Johannesburg Central police have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the murder of a woman at the Loftus Building on the corner of Pritchard and Small streets at about 2am on Sunday morning, Gauteng police said.
It was alleged that the man pushed his 26-year-old girlfriend out of a 14th floor window, Captain Xoli Mbele said.
Police were called by a security guard at the building and found the boyfriend “with blood on his clothes and shoes and all over the floor”. The flat was “ransacked and the suspect informed the police that they had a fight”.
The investigation was continuing and the man would appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
Mbele appealed to women to immediately inform police if they were being abused by their partner. Abuse could include emotional abuse, financial abuse, and physical abuse.
“Don’t stay in an abusive relationship; when your partner is assaulting you once and you don’t take steps against him, he will never stop unless you report him.
“Silence is no longer golden; we are appealing to the women to report their partner if they assault them. Working together between the community and the police can subdue the escalating of crime against women, Mbele said.
