Boys in court for teens' murder
Updated | By Lonwabo Miso
The Protea Magistrate's Court recommended that one of the two teenage boys allegedly linked to the murder of two Soweto schoolgirls be sent for psychiatric observation.
The court was expected to set a date on May 2 for the boy to go to Sterkfontein Hospital, Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.
The court would also hold a preliminary inquiry in terms of the Child Justice Act for the other boy.
Makhubela said the inquiry would determine whether the boys would go on trial.
The boys, who cannot be named because they are minors, remain in custody.
They were arrested in connection with the murder of Thandeka Moganetsi, 15, and Chwayita Rathazayo, 16.
The girls were found dead in a field in Dobsonville in February.
They were both wearing their George Khoza Secondary School uniforms when they were found with cuts on their hands and necks.
Three black candles and two new razor blades were found at the scene.
The murder was believed to have been linked to a satanic ritual.
