The City of Cape Town will be the focus today as president Jacob Zuma prepares to open parliament with his State of the Nation address this evening. In the wake of Tuesday's Constitutional Court Nkandla-hearing and the Economic Fallout from his surprise sacking of Finance Minister, Nhalnhla Nene in December - many believe this is president Zuma's most important speech ever. Sli'ndelo Masikane reports.  

This evening's address approaches once again under a cloud of red EFF dust. The Economic Freedom Fighters have threatened to disrupt the marquee event, over the sacking of former Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene. As Marius van der Walt reports, it seems history could very well repeat itself in Cape Town this evening.


Today 26 years ago, Nelson Mandela took his first steps to freedom from the gates of the Victor Verster prison; this is the same time as Parliamentarians will we taking to the red carpet. In 1990, Madiba addressed thousands for the first time in Cape Town. Here is a reminder of his speech. 

Today marks day seven of the search and rescue efforts at Lily mine. Three mine workers are still trapped in a container below ground since a sinkhole caved in last Friday morning.  Here is a video of Maryke Vermaak reporting from Barberton.

 

Top South African designers will be dressing the who's who's of politics at the State of the Nation address. Entertainment reporter MorneJK is in Cape Town and spoke to one of the country's designer on who they will be dressing.
