Cape toddler's suspected killers to remain behind bars

Two suspects arrested for the murder of a 5-year-old boy in Lavender Hill in Cape Town will remain behind bars for the rest of the festive season.
Valentino Grootetjie was struck by a stray bullet during a shootout between rival gangs outside his home.
He was laid to rest on Saturday.

The pair accused of his killing appeared at the appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates Court for murder and attempted murder on Friday.
Police spokesperson, Novela Potelwa says the anti-gang unit was deployed following the shooting.
"Detectives have been working around the clock in search of the perpetrators of the shooting,” said Potelwa.
“On Monday they apprehended two suspects, aged 24 and 29, in connection with the murder and attempted murder.”
A 22-year-old was also shot and seriously wounded in the same incident.
He was taken to hospital for medical assistance.
Potelwa says the two suspects were previously arrested for a series of other cases, including theft, possession of drugs, and assault.
They will be applying for bail on January 23.
